In the UK, it is estimated that there are between 130,000 and 160,000 qualified sport coaches and many others who are coaching but do not hold a national governing body coaching qualification. As sport can make such a positive contribution to the quality of life of millions of young people, it is vitally important that coaches get the right start in making sport a safe, enjoyable and rewarding experience.
In the lead up to the 2012 Olympics, we welcome the Recruit into Coaching trainees to the ranks of developing coaches who will "Make Britain Proud" by bringing a young peoples' sport legacy to life.
Recruit into Coaching is part of the wider PE and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP) coaching strand and aims to increase the availability of high quality coaching to young people at an early age to contribute to the delivery of the five-hour offer.
The aim of the programme is to recruit and deploy 10,000 new volunteer coaches by 2011.
