On Tuesday 7th July 2009 students from the Links School Sport Partnership Leadership Academy travelled down to London for a tour of the olympic site. The event was motivated by the partnership Young Ammbassadors who have been working with schools to raise the profile of the London 2012 Olympics.
Before this event could take place Young Ambassadors encouraged schools to submit t-shirt designs to promote the Olympic Values and ledership. A student from St Ann's Primary School designed the winning t-shirt and now the design has been printed onto the leadership acadamies t-shirts.
26 students were selected to go down to London, these included 6 primary playground leaders, 1 young ambassador and several secondary students who were from the leadership academy.
The tour was organised by Craig Malkin, School Sports Coordinator at Sheffield Park Academy. Debbie Smith an athlete mentor working within the partnership as part of the Youth Sports Trusts RAMP programme was invited to the event.
Following the tour of the Olympic Park the young leaders visited Hallsville Primary School in London, to run an afternoon of sports activities for Y1 and Y2 students.
A partnership has now been established with Hallsville Primary School and plans have been made to develop several exchange opportunities for students in Sheffield and London. Emma Fiddler one of the Young Ambassadors behind this years partnership Olympic programme said "It is fun to see kids get rewarded for their volunteering efforts and i thought this trip might also inspire others. It was great fun to go to the Olympic Village but the best bit was showing these London kids what we can do as leaders".
